Adding a hotel reservation as a GDS passive segment


To seamlessly incorporate an Expedia TAAP property booking as a passive segment in the traveler's PNR (Passenger Name Record), it only takes a few clicks. Expedia TAAP offers the GDS (Global Distribution Systems) entry for Galileo, Sabre, and Amadeus, making the process quick and efficient. Simply follow the instructions below.


1. Click on 'Create travel documents'

From the Expedia TAAP homepage, scroll down to Travel agent tools and select Create travel documents

2. Select booked itinerary

From the list of itineraries, select the specific trip or reservation you wish to include in the GDS.

3. Click 'View as GDS command'

In the itinerary details page click the link View as GDS command.

4. Highlight and copy the relevant GDS command

If required, after copying the desired GDS command, make any changes you need before adding it to the PNR. Once you are finished, click Close

What is the GDS?

A GDS or Global Distribution System is a worldwide reservation system connecting travel service providers (airlines, hotels, car rentals) with travel agencies and corporate travel managers. Major GDSs include Amadeus, Sabre, and Galileo.

What is a passive segment and when should I use it?

A passive segment is a record or entry in the GDS that represents a reservation for which a ticket won't be issued. Passive segments are most commonly used with travel components (hotels, flights, etc.) booked outside the GDS, so that they are still able to be captured by 3rd party systems like a back-office integration or expense management systems.


When you book a property with Expedia TAAP, but the flight for the same trip was booked on the GDS, you can use a passive segment to generate a single, unified itinerary within the GDS, for your traveler. By using a passive segment, and not an active segment, you avoid double-booking or creating a new active reservation in the GDS for an alerady booked item.

What is a PNR?

A PNR or Personal Name Record also sometimes referred to as "Record locator", is essentially a digital record entry containing a passager's complete booking information, including passagener and itinerary details. It functions as a unique booking reference or reservation code.
